Introduction

We Write Songs exists to support human-centred songwriting, artistic growth, creative trust, and meaningful creative connection.

This policy is intended to help protect:

• human creativity and authorship

• emotional safety and vulnerable sharing

• creative ownership and consent

• collaboration culture

• trust within the community

This policy is not intended to make broader judgments about AI within the music industry.

Its purpose is to help preserve the specific creative culture and values of WWS.

 

Human Creativity Comes First​

We recognise that AI tools are increasingly becoming part of modern creative life, and that members may hold a wide range of perspectives and comfort levels around them.

We also recognise that some AI-assisted tools may support production workflows, organisation, editing, accessibility, or other aspects of creative practice.

​

However, within WWS, human creativity, artistic voice, and genuine songwriting practice remain central.

 

​At its core, WWS exists to support:

• human songwriting

• emotional honesty

• human creative exploration

• artistic growth

• genuine authorship

• thoughtful collaboration

• sustainable creative practice

 

What Is Not Aligned With WWS

Completely AI-generated songs, lyrics, melodies, artist projects, or creative identities are not aligned with the purpose or creative ethos of WWS and are not permitted within the community.

 

This includes using AI as a replacement for meaningful human songwriting authorship or creative contribution.

 

Members may not:

• present fully AI-generated songwriting content as human-authored work within WWS

• upload another member’s work into AI systems without explicit permission

• use member work to train AI models

• generate derivative works from member content

• clone member voices or likenesses

• use AI systems to generate songwriting feedback, critique, or analysis on member work in place of genuine human listening and response

• use AI tools to bypass creative ownership or collaboration ethics

Protected Songwriting Spaces

Certain areas of WWS are intentionally human-first creative environments.

 

This includes, but is not limited to:

• The Writing Room

• The Monthly Challenge

• Speedwriting Power Hours

• Freestyle Writing Hours

• Collab Club events

These spaces are intended to support human creative exploration, collaboration, creative courage, artistic growth, and vulnerable creative practice.

​

Members are encouraged to approach these spaces with honesty, openness, and a willingness to share work in its genuinely human and developing form.

​

Within these spaces, we ask members to prioritise their own creative voice, instincts, and songwriting process, and to avoid relying heavily on AI-assisted generation during the songwriting process itself.

​

These spaces are intended to support vulnerable creative practice and to encourage members to trust their own instincts, experimentation, and artistic development without pressure to compete with polished or AI-generated output.

These expectations operate largely on trust, transparency, and shared community values.

Transparency Around AI-Assisted Work

WWS aims to protect an environment where members feel safe sharing unfinished, imperfect, or developing creative work without pressure to compete with the polish or pace of AI-generated content.

 

Where AI-assisted elements meaningfully shape work being shared within the community, we encourage reasonable transparency so others understand what they are hearing and how best to respond.

 

This does not mean members are expected to disclose every workflow tool, plugin, or production process used during private creative practice.

However, where AI-assisted elements significantly shape songwriting, vocals, composition, or presentation, we encourage members to represent this honestly and thoughtfully.

​

WWS may occasionally suggest hashtags, labels, or contextual notes to help provide listening context within the community.

​

 

Policy Evolution

AI technology and creative tools are evolving rapidly.

​

WWS will periodically review and update this policy in response to technological developments, community experience, emerging ethical concerns, and the evolving needs of the community.

​

Any future updates will continue to prioritise the protection of human creativity, creative trust, artistic growth, and vulnerable creative practice within WWS.
